Forget Yourself, and Go To Work: Good Advice from a Prophet

As I was pondering and writing a response to a letter I got from a good friend in the Church, I started sensing that still small voice of the Spirit telling me exactly what I need to do to get out of this slump I've been in. I was led to read an article in the Ensign about President Hinckley when he was a very discouraged young missionary. He was about ready to quit and go home, but he got a letter from his father that changed his whole perspective. His father said the only advice he had for him was: Forget Yourself, and Go To Work.

That is the advice my Heavenly Father is giving me, right now: Forget Yourself, and Go To Work.  That should be my personal motto for this phase in my life.  Forget myself, forget my past, forget my fears and doubts, forget my feelings of inadequacy, and GO TO WORK!!!

Go to work on my genealogy, go to work on my studies, go to work on my music skills.  Throw myself, mind, heart and strength into the things I love, the things that will enrich my life and the lives of others, the things of Zion.  And stop worrying so much about the past.  One step, one day, at a time, like the Nauvoo pioneers.
